The wide dock connector that powered and synced iPods, iPhones and iPads for nearly a decade, and spawned a huge ecosystem of speakers and docks.

Its retirement for the tiny Lightning plug in 2012 instantly obsoleted a generation of speaker docks and alarm clocks.

Some pins carry analog audio, useful for reviving old dock speakers through an adapter.

For years this connector WAS the iPod. A whole accessory industry grew on its 30 pins, then vanished overnight.
